Hear ye, Hear ye!

Hear ye, Hear ye!

A cloud of dust blinds me, workers hold drills… With all the construction work, my arrival at Ankama wasn’t very relaxing. But I’ve finally gotten here, to the land of Tofus. And even those loud noises in the walls and the capricious air conditioner will not kill my motivation!

But let’s get back to our business. Let me introduce myself. I’m Glacialena and I’m in charge of the french Wakfu community, and part of my job is to form a connection between the players and the developers. I will pamper you, answer your questions and torture Tanuki-Sempai so that he reveals all the new content of Wakfu!

I hope to see you very soon on the forums!

Chewy coffee

We’ve decided to give you a little glimpse into what goes on day to day here at Ankama… for your eyes only!

8 am, arrival at Ankama:
BAM BAM BAM ... Bzzzzzzzzzzzz ... Klung Klang ...
Venom: Hey, they are working already? Do these guys ever sleep...?

10 am, in the middle of reviewing some details of the ecosystem:
BAM BAM BAM ... Bzzzzzzzzzzzz ... Klung Klang ...
Venom: What’s that huge black thing on the window, it looks like… Yeurk.
BOUM ... BOUM
Tanuki: It’s Godzilla, run!!! …

1 pm, after a nice little meal:
[…]
Venom: **Burp** Ahhhh finally some peace, they must have gone for lunch.
BAM BAM BAM ... Bzzzzzzzzzzzz ... Klung Klang.....
Venom: Ah noooooooooo! **pulls out his hair**

3.30 pm, coffee break at our little terrace:
BAM BAM BAM ... Bzzzzzzzzzzzz ... Klung Klang ...
Venom: Ahhh it’s horrible, what’s that noise? (koff... koff...)
Rumo: Hey guys, I just invented chewy coffee!
Venom: What? ... Where are you? ...

Recipe: Chewy coffee
•A little cup of hot coffee just out of the machine
• A construction site full of dust
• Mix it… and it’s ready!

Yep, soon we’ll have a clean, renovated building… but until then, we have to put up with all the construction work!

The return of the 12

It was a source of incredible surprise, and then of crazy bets: which will be the next god to arise?

Around the whole world, the fervor has awoken; the belief in these ancient gods is finally paying off! From mouth to ear, from ear to cabbage leave, the message has been passed on to the depths of the regions under construction in the world of Wakfu: “The gods are back, the gods are listening to you!”

Yes, the last dozing gods have returned, Pandawa, Ecaflip, Enutrof… and Sadida, the only god whose sleep didn’t worry anybody.
In a post cataclysmic universe dominated by beliefs based on Ogrest’s fear, the return of the 12 seems to have changed everything. Is a semblance of harmony possible once more?

Each god is a possibility in itself, a possible future, hope, a lifestyle, a moral, each one with his subtleties, his deviations, his conflicts, his doubts.

I cannot imagine how the past world, reigned by the sole fear of imminent ruin (Ogrest and his symbolic representation), can become one with hopes and, most of all, oppositions?
We are surely experiencing a revolution as important as that of the great downpour. All the most powerful means are formal; Wakfu is so gravely disturbed that a new catastrophe could arrive at any moment!

This is of course only a personal interpretation, but don’t you think that if we fail to organize ourselves soon, we’ll soon experience the insanity of men drunk of gods?

Patch 0.77 brought us the last gods, but many other new gifts too:

-A global map of the world
-A new interface
-Arrival of the Skin Tanning profession
-New craft recipes
-A new drop system
-Combat bonus for quick players

That’s all for now, I’m going to continue meditating on the future of this world…

The surprise of patch 0.75: Xelor and Enirpsa have arrived!

Since my last visit to the world of Wakfu, there has been nothing but surprises! All over the world I discover the growing passion of the faithful for the forgotten gods… But forgotten for how much longer? With each detour, a prayer, to every shadow its meaning, to each sign an interpretation. Everything that exists is reason enough to demand the return of a god. Is it spring, the season of rebirth, which makes the creatures hope for the return?

Yesterday I met Tanuki-sempai, he who thought I was crazy. I believed he had lost his mind, he wouldn’t stop repeating: “No, this is not possible, it’s not in the code… not in the code, it’s impossible… it’s not logical, not in the code.” He seemed pathetic.

Last Friday we patched the 0.75, two or three little changes, new zones, and that’s ALL! On Monday morning, to everyone’s surprise, we could see a phenomenal number of Xelor and Eniripsa, chasing after Gobballs and Piwis.

As usual, and in the hopes that it will help us understand what is happening, I will show you here what seem to me the most explicit messages to the gods from some admirably religious people!
However, there’s something else I’m curious about: what is Ogrest doing? Does he sense the return of the gods? And talking of senses, for several days, we have been haunted by a horrible smell, the same smell that sometimes escapes from the basement. But now that I think of it, maybe Aduline has some idea of where it comes from!

Ghostrider for Xelor

Lagotar for Xelor

AlchemistNation for Xelor

(Warning, gif animations! it can be long to see)

Elwes for Eniripsa

Stormfury for Eniripsa

And more...

Message from Cra

I talked about it a while ago, the appearance of the Srams has maybe been caused by some deceitful prayers by Srams’s faithful disciples. However, last week another god seems to have returned to our world – Cra. Is it true? Have our prayers been heard? Do we really have an impact on this world? Have the gods returned?

After patch 0.74 on May 16th, an unbelievable number of Cras have been incarnated and have quickly started shooting at everything that moves!

But let’s get back to our prayer story! I would like to show you, what may have awakened this god. First of all, let’s have a look at Ghostrider, a French Beta player, and the giant arrow he made in the middle of this field:

Mafr is in the middle of a prayer to Cra:

We know that right now, there are still 9 invisible gods… Will we have enough fervor to cause their return?
…oh yeah, the little papers…

*takes an old sweet wrapper out of his pocket, which is covered in indecipherable writing*
-2000 new invites for the Beta
-secure Kama exchange
- creatures are more and more aggressive
-the Cras… have arrived!

Oh! Aduline is back!

*throws the paper into the dustbin and greets Aduline*

Dinner Time!

Today is a special day - a lot of people took a long weekend and the offices are rather empty. Even Tanuki-Sempai isn’t around to supervise us!

So I’ll take this opportunity to talk about my life… and for instance, hmm… my soup! What’s wrong with soup? It tastes really good! My colleagues always look at me strangely when I heat up my pack of soup, while they are there with their noodles from the day before or their ready meals which can give you cancer, by the way… Seriously, I don’t understand! You can find these delicious fresh soups with broccoli or asparagus in any supermarket! And in summer, there’s nothing more refreshing than a cool and spicy gazpacho!

Besides, I’m not the only one who appreciates soup around here… a few days ago, it was the annual festival of the “Golden Ladle” with its famous open-air soup contest and free tasting. I participated a few years ago with a nettle soup and a coral lens soup with ginger… but that’s another story :)

But I’m still surrounded by soup, because these days, I’m busy creating recipes that will help you create potions, poisons, sweets, small dishes… in Wakfu. And of course soup! To do so, I have different vegetables, plants, cereals, mushrooms, but also flowers, fruits, Ergot Concoction (yes, that exists!), pollen and spores, vegetable essence...

What about you? Do you have any good soup recipes to suggest? If some of them inspire me, you might even find them in the game… ;)

Free at last!

Aaaaaaaah! Finally some sunshine!!
A week… Or two? Or even a month?? How long have I been held by this monster?

I should never have hidden in the basement to read Jean DeLano’s secret notes … I had been warned that there were weird growls downstairs, despite the new sophisticated security system…

I’m really looking forward to having a shower, I’m covered in ogre mucus… This huge smelly heap is just too ‘affectionate’… I don’t even know how I managed to escape. I thought I heard voices, saw silhouettes… I heard someone running down the stairway… and it woke me up, I was blinded by a flash of light, and the huge monster too. I took advantage of the moment and escaped! But I couldn’t find anybody, just this dusty camera. Who could it have been? Why did he disappear? Why did he take these photos? By the way, they are really bad, but that doesn’t tell me anything about the identity of my possible savior…

Just another mystery to solve.
And everybody has left the office! Hum let’s see where they are… Oh, version 0.73 now! This version finally has sound, too! That’s good news… Well, all I can do now is continue working and discreetly investigate… There are strange things going on here…

Pray to the Gods!

We’ve been worried for a few days now… Aduline has disappeared and her last message wasn’t very reassuring! We’ve searched everywhere: the BowMeow boxes in the stockroom upstairs, between the pages of the 128 732 DOFUS Mangas, in Daryl’s notes, that he doesn’t really control… yeah, there is Wakfu in there, or Stasis, I’m not really sure, but one thing is certain, it has some kind of intelligence!

*moment of deep thought*

Ohhh! But of course! There’s one place left to search! It’s cold, humid, dark, filled with strange odours, it somehow looks like a holiday camp for Chafers! This cursed place, it’s the basement! The -1 floor of Ankama’s dungeon! Only a small few have come back to report what really happens down there. Others even pretend that Ogrest takes his nap between these empty walls every once in a while… Yes, this place is mysterious, and if this is where Aduline has disappeared, we’ll need a lot of courage to go look for her!

*Note: ask one of the new interns to explore the -1*

The weird thing about this story is that at Polymanga (Swiss japanime convention), we discovered that Aduline disappeared the very same day that the SRAMS appeared! SRAMS everywhere! Did they foresee this? The basement will tell us!

But what about my part in all this? Was it a mistake to run through the Astrub plains and tell everyone who would listen that they must pray to the gods? Was it the prayer of a vile servant of SRAM that triggered their reappearance?

Do we have the power to bring back the gods? If that’s the case, by what means?! And is there still hope that a huge number of mighty souls can come back to our world through Incarnam?

Anyhow, one thing is sure: the SRAMS have arrived!

How to Mushroom a Mushroom

Let’s go mushrooming for mushrooms…

… or not.

In any case, mushrooming is one of the skills that we are adding to the game at the moment. This meticulous task includes placing resources, adding recipes, designing machines, drawing items… so we end up with something coherent and interesting.

Right now, version 0.72 is finished! We are still doing intensive testing, while new content is being added… By the way, I found some notes on Jean DeLano’s desk… It seems as if this mysterious character has his informants, who give him juicy details on the updates of the patches… let’s see:

-You can now repair your equipment with a forge
-Professions now have 300 levels
-The economies of ingredients during the crafts are working
-Monsters no longer commit suicide at the edge of the sphere of combat
-Appearance of … wait… what’s that noise?

Who’s there? Hey! Who… aaaarrrrrgh!! ...

Harmonising the Wakfu

Toot, toot on my mouth organ, mythbuilding we go.

In the depths of the labyrinth, inspiration will flow.

That’s what I’m telling myself at least as I sprint down Ankama’s dark corridor. My fist presses against my tightened chest, inside it a 256k USB key with an image and two low-res screen shots. I snatched them from Fulcanelli’s office when he was on break. What a gem. But we must never speak of it – at least not before September. At last! All this should have been released long ago, but my life is still hanging in the balance. The secret of Stasis. Wakfu’s fingerprint! I must try to see these things clearly, from a neutral point of view, for that is key. Oh and it has taken some time to synthetize what could not be. To hold the essence, the fluid of the world in a single phrase… to finally comprehend wakfu in its totality, as all these fragments draw towards a common centre to form the image of a teeming world, of a beta test played to the full, of activity which does not cease to grow, day after day, all this I desire. Who will defend the customised Croton fields? A concrete picture is emerging. I hope I am not wrong. If I am wrong, I am finished.

It’s been almost a year since I began work on this mysterious energy, this force that almost measures up to wakfu itself - stasis. All along I thought stasis was simply an aspect of wakfu – as though I was blind to the duality that nourishes our world. Considering that wakfu is cosmic energy – the coming and going of life itself – I had concluded that stasis must be the immobile state of wakfu. Nothing but a degree of wakfu. The fact is, I believed in my naivety, or pretentiousness, that the nature of stasis was cosmic, like wakfu… worse, I believed that it was a component of wakfu. Nothing could be further from the truth. Stasis, like elementary energy, exists only in our material world. Wakfu alone is cosmic, wakfu is the anti matter of the universe and acts as a bond between concepts – it is the eternal vessel and material of creation and destruction. Only in our material world, in which man and beast exist and are capable of exercising judgement, can a double energy exist. It is WE who created stasis. WE constantly churn it out.

Since the time of the flood, the World of Twelve has held Ogrest as sole perpetrator – Ogrest, the personification of wakfu, he who ascends to the very Zenith of the energy source. But it is not so. There is something else. Long before the coming of Ogrest, during the time of Dofus, men began to play with another energy, an energy which affected nature, climate, reality itself. No one knew that another energy was at hand, for them, as for us, it was just nuts and bolts. Technology is the source of stasis. The devastation wrought by its interaction with wakfu, which has already ruined Ogrest, culminated when it sealed our fate. The very birds sing the truth of the matter -

Wakfu is Nature’s sap. Stasis is Machine fluid.

Machine in the general sense of the word. Machine in the sense of presence. Like a tree. Machines are the trees of science. I don’t want to suggest that stasis is a solely corruptive force. Stasis is no more good than wakfu is bad. Within wakfu, creation and destruction reside. Stasis which is used according to the principles of equilibrium is to be desired – it can even prove essential. The two are entwined in a terrible dance which will prove fatal sooner or later should no one appreciate the peril. Disappearance, absence, annihilation – the Void. We must learn the ways of equilibrium before one overwhelms the other completely. We no longer have a choice.

Let us learn the ways of harmony.
