Are we there YEEEEEEEETTTT?
by Zidrune - Friday May 15, 2009 13 commentariesThe daily 65,000-Kama question is "Are we able to play Wakfu yet?"!
Today an answer comes… not the usual "whenever it will be ready" or "some day"… NO! Today I have an answer, a real one! Before you start jumping round driving everyone crazy, as always, we’ve hidden a little BUT in there!
We’ve decided to release a closed beta around mid-June, which is about two weeks before Ankama Convention #4. This closed beta will be restricted to about a hundred players. They will have a serious objective: to track bugs and comment all the new features.
Why is it going to be a closed Beta?
First of all, because we must have quick feedback from players on very precise features, and also because the patch content will not have been completed.
How will the chosen players be selected?
The players who will play the closed Beta have already been selected. Therefore, it will be useless to harass moderators or flood forums to get into it. The selected players are people who have been highly involved in the Wakfu community.
What will they discover?
This is a good question… and here is a little summary on how far development has come:
9 of the 12 classes will be available for sure. Sadidas are still being remade. Enutrofs and Osamosas, they are playing hard-to-get… But you may get a glimpse of their competences before they come out!I’ll try to get Zeorus to come here and talk to you about it… if we find a gap in his schedule!New character sheets, new aptitudes (32 out of 48 are available), new spells, which means lots of tests to check all the different builds offered by the new system.
Here are the places they’ll be able to go to 4 islands f the Amakna archipelago: Emelka, Ohm, Sevamor and Mork. On each island, there will be 8 dungeons to visit either with a guild or with friends ! It will be just perfect to test the new fighting system and its variable timeline.
Besides that, marketplaces are functional and the loot system and monsters have been revised… well, that should be enough for today, don’t you think?
For those of you who are already mouthing the question: "when will the open be ready?" I will just have to tell them to be patient and wait until July (at least after AC#4)!

YAAAY unemployment lolAnd before I commit to the lifetime thing, I'll need to test out what's coming. Thanks for the updated info and the tangible goals that now we can put a "stake in".Soulp, I believe that the game will be a "finished product" - or as close as a Beta could be - and would subsequently have the English translation on everything. This means that when they so decide to open up the new Closed Beta, it will be playable by all the relevant/notable language groups. And although they said that they picked the people for the CB already, they did not really put a specification on when they were going to release it (and it might have already happened for all we know). All in all though, I would not worry about it as the CB is supposed to be only for a short time (as far as I can tell, it won't be longer than the trade show that Ankama is involved with), I heard in the realm of 2 weeks, although that is pure hearsay.
P.S. Zidrune, I am loving that avatar. I'm not sure how I've missed it thus far...I suppose my wild abandon in my youth is catching up to me
They should have left it alone because they temporarily took out some of the classes they are going to add back in? How much patience do you have exactly?
They are remaking the classes. Which would you rather have? 12 imbalanced characters or 3 balanced characters? I prefer the latter, since I know that Ankama will add the remaining 9 classes once they are balanced. I'm happy that Ankama has finally seen the light and started to smarten up (i.e. not have the game designers working on the code all at once, thus creating more bugs with each new patch). So have patience. See this as a chance to explore a class you wouldn't normally choose.
What are you looking forward to in v2?
